Due to technical difficulties we couldn’t get the screen cast associated with this talk up on our site. Perhaps we’ll have Marc back at some point to re-cap his talk for those who couldn’t make it the first time.

Hi folks! Amir will be giving a talk on BDD in Java. This is a*must attend* session for anyone serious about the quality and durability of their software systems. Here’s an outline of his talk, hope to see you there:

Behaviour Driven Development drives you process towards keeping the focus on the stakeholder’s goals while discovering new features to implement.

But… what does it mean in a Java project to use BDD? What do I have to change? What tools are available? Can I use it for project with actual deadlines? How the quality will be improved?

jBehave is a framework that helps to implement Behaviour-Driven development in Java. It uses a language called Gherkin that helps to express the feature intention and translate that easily to Java code.

Join us and see how easy is to setup jBehave, how you can start using it in minutes and how will change the way you write software.

The meeting will be 5:30pm Monday January 9th 2012 at the SmartPark Event Centre on the University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus.

The one thing you can say about Winnipeg is we have some great Java developers and people using other languages like JRuby, Scala and Clojure on the JVM. I mean what else other than programming is there to do when it’s -30c a good portion of the year! The problem is, we have no gathering place like the Ruby, .NET and Functional Programming guys. There’s no sense of community here.

Lack of community tends to breed developers who only know what they can learn on our own, through colleagues during their 9-5 or via expensive training courses. Winnipeg desperately needs a JVM-based User Group in order for people to learn outside their boundaries of knowledge, for members to share their experience and most importantly for Winnipegers to build a solid community of Java and JVM developers who have a passion for the language and a willingness to meet other like-minded individuals.

So Winnipeg, I bid you “Hello World!”, and I look forward to seeing you at our first meeting which is now in the making. Stay tuned!
